Summary

To complement the recent appearance of Dr. Wes Goodman, we now have the founder of N1 Education, Coach Kassem Hanson to join us on iron culture to discuss applied biomechanics and anatomy for bodybuilding. We discuss the limitations of research, what might be considered fundamental features of effective hypertrophy exercises, common mistakes and misunderstandings of applied anatomy, individual differences and more! Join us in this discussion of bodybuilding functional anatomy and learn how to take your, or your clients training that much closer to optimal.

We're back, and it's a privilege to have Coach Casamon from N1 on the podcast, which I'm excited about.

0:16.0

Howdy, guys?

0:17.5

Howdy, howdy?

0:18.6

Yeah, so it was not that long ago. It was only a few episodes back, if I am correctly thinking how we're going to release the order of these episodes that we had Dr. West Goodman on, who talked us through a pretty comprehensive look on the field of biomechanics as a whole, everything from motor learning theory and the theoretical

0:38.4

constructs that's built upon that aren't necessarily a consensus in the biomechanics world,

0:45.9

even among researchers, and an understanding of how we went from cadaver-based research to

0:52.7

useful technologies that maybe we over extrapolated on like EMG or force plates

1:00.1

and understanding different ways of trying to quantify the forces that the body experiences and produces through ground reaction forces, joint torques, etc.

1:12.8

And kind of how he bridged the gap um into trying to figure out some things that we can't from those models using

1:19.1

modeling actually constructing models based upon real world data and unfortunately one of the

1:26.1

outcomes of his research guys was that it seems that the soleus

1:30.2

might actually be a major contributor to squat performance and that is why omar is not with us here

1:36.8

today he said i am boycotting iron culture until we have a retraction of that um so we might not be seeing Omar for a while. The good

1:46.8

news is that Omar also tends to have a relatively short-term memory on these things. So I suspect

1:52.4

he'll forget about this. We'll see him in the future. But we've got myself, Dr. Trexler,

1:58.1

and of course, Coach Casamon. And the beauty of having Coach Casamon is he is very much focused.

2:05.7

Would you say more so in the hypertrophy world and the strength performance world of biomechanics?

2:10.5

Yeah, that's probably fair to say.

2:13.8

I which, I mean, personally, that's why I really like your content, because, you know, through Berto first and then Brian, and also just interacting with you directly, I've personally found a lot of your content very helpful as someone who is trying to really turn over every stone in a late stage of my career, trying to be competitive at a high level, and, you know, trying

2:35.7

to optimize things.
