While experiencing an unhappy childhood is far from ideal, there can be an upside. Dennis provides personal stories and reminds us not to feel “traumatized” when life throws difficult things our way.

Hey everybody, he's here. I just wanted to make sure because he's gonna run away any moment now,

0:04.8

but this is Mr. Tubbs. Say hello, Mr. Tubbs. And goodbye. Okay, you got to see him. Now, by the way,

0:12.3

let me just say something. By the way, I'm Dennis Prager. This is the fireside chat number 312.

I got a really, really, really angry email. I'm kidding. It was not written in anger. It was written

0:28.9

in disappointment. Apparently, at some point in a recent fireside chat, Snoopy walked over to me

0:37.6

and I didn't pet him, according at least to the email writer. And the email writer said,

0:45.4

you know, I know he's not auto, but still you should show him some attention. Like I don't show him

0:52.0

a ton of attention. If he came over to me and I didn't rub him, there's only one possible explanation

1:50.2

But you don't know that I'm a good guy from that. I think I am, but my point is that was enough

2:01.7

to affirm my character just that one minute, two minute interaction. On the other hand, if for whatever

2:12.0

reason I didn't come across particularly warm, I met Dennis Prager and he's now what he seems.

2:21.3

And it's not just me, it's literally any public figure. I came along and go to the realization

2:27.8

that the great one, you have to know the difference between things you can change and things you

2:33.7

can't. That's unchangeable. So I live with it and I deal with it and that's what you have to know

2:41.8

and everyone has to know. That's the serenity prayer. I'm going to look, give me the serenity prayer

2:49.2

which I just find that it is the most wonderful brief guide to living a life. It was pastor,
