Summary

John H Stracey is one of Britain's greatest World Boxing Champions of all time. He achieved the ultimate in December of 1975, when he became the undisputed Welterweight Champion of the World in Mexico City. He also famously boxed in Las Vegas on the Muhammad Ali bill. Before he reached the age of 18, John won no less than five National Championships. When he turned pro, he had an unbeaten run of 28 fights in three years, winning the British, European and World Welterweight Championships in a career spanning 17 years. He is also the only British boxer ever to be introduced into the WBC, Boxing Hall of Fame in October 2005. To commemorate the 50th anniversary of his achievement a play all about his amazing life is being performed at the beginning of May at the famous Adelphi Hotel in Liverpool .

My name's Mike Fenton-Stevens, and my time capsule is a podcast where people tell me five things from their life they wish they had in a time capsule. They pick four things that they really love and one thing they'd really like to forget. My guest in this episode is John H. Stacey MBE.
1:47.1	John is a former professional boxer who competed from 1969 to 1978. He competed for Great
1:53.9	Britain as a lightweight to the 1968 Summer Olympics, and he held the British and European
1:59.1	World Warwick titles, and he was also the
2:01.4	World toweight Undisputed World Champion. John is ranked as the eighth best British World
2:06.8	Weight of all time. He won the world title by challenging WBC World War II champion
2:12.4	Jose Napolz, in Nepal's hometown of Mexico City. He retained the title against perennial world title
2:19.4	challenger Hedgeman Lewis by a knockout in round 10 in 1976. In his professional career,
2:27.0	he had 51 fights with 45 wins and one draw. John is the oldest living English world champion
2:33.9	and still the only Brit to win a title
