Summary

Jeff Alberts has been training longer than most Iron Culture listeners have been alive and competing in bodybuilding longer than some as well. As a natural bodybuilder, he’s steadily climbed the ranks from amateur to professional, to winning pro shows, to placing top 5 at WNBF Pro Worlds. While these are impressive feats for any bodybuilder, what’s incredible is that he’s turning 50 this year, still at his peak, and is in the midst of contest preparation for the 2021 season. This résumé alone would warrant any smart bodybuilder to listen closely and take notes, but on top of his personal experience, Jeff has coached over 1000 individuals, recreational and competitive, from amateur to professional champion. This isn’t one to miss folks, so sit back and take in the wealth of experience of Jeff Alberts.

I think, okay, so we have had every single member of the damn squad on, but now we're

0:07.1

giving a little shine to the Godfather himself. You've heard it before, you've heard whispers of

0:12.3

this. You've maybe heard it in the community. The Godfather, the Godfather says this.

0:17.4

We have the 3DMJ Godfather in the house today to talk.

0:22.5

Everyone's favorite topic.

0:23.6

Yeah, even you power lifters.

0:25.1

Don't lie to yourself, getting yucky, getting aesthetic, just looking proportioned,

0:30.0

tanned, and downright aesthetic.

0:33.4

Yeah.

0:34.0

I mean, this is a man who's been lifting since I was three years old and competing since I was 10.

0:40.5

More importantly, he's been a person who's gone through epochs in his lifting career.

0:46.5

Just like anything that lasts a lifespan for many of you, dear listeners, who might be younger than as long as he's been lifting, or even younger than as long as he's been competing, which is 27 years.

0:58.0

As much as you've changed, so has Jeff's relationship with the iron and with competitive bodybuilding.

1:04.3

So a lot to be learned, and I think especially important is one of the reasons why I have a tremendous amount of respect for Jeff is that he is someone who really embodies experiential learning.

1:17.0

He's someone who is present, reflects, changes one thing at a time, and has great consideration for what am I currently facing, How can I change it and what might I,

1:28.9

what might I modify to do so? And then he changes that one thing, assesses it, and then goes

1:34.3

with it with no expediency. It's something that he considers greatly, tries multiple times.

1:39.8

And when he lands on something that is a change, it's often for the better.

1:45.8

And he is continually improved throughout his career.

1:48.7

And I think that's something to aspire to for any bodybuilder.

1:53.6

And he's a great example of how the false dichotomy of experience versus science is truly just that, a false dichotomy.

2:02.6

Because what is often masquerading as experience in kind of the online blogosphere, kind of meme representation of what we think bro-science for science is, is essentially just mimicry, copying what the most popular strength athletes and bodybuilders do at a societal level, having thousands of novice bodybuilders and powerlifters, recreational or competitive, just trying to do the thing that the current hot topic lifter is doing and applying it to their own life and then just following the winds of change
