Summary

Ray Burton, father of legendary Metallica bass player Cliff Burton, passed away on January 15th due to complications with pneumonia. He was 94 years old. Ray lived an incredibly long and fruitful life, keeping the memory and legacy of Cliff alive the entire time. Many of us got to meet Ray in our journeys to Metallica shows and he greeted every one with kindness and love. In this episode we, along with others including Metallica themselves, pay tribute to Ray Burton. We were lucky to have Ray on the podcast for our milestone 100th episode. He was as kind and generous as all the stories we heard, even sending us personalized letters after the interview. We are lucky to have called him a friend. We sure will miss him, as we're sure you all will too. We love you, Ray. Rest in peace.

1:15.1	good friend of mine. It's a great human being and obviously the fact that he's Cliff
1:20.7	Burton's dad is another reason we love having him around, but that's not the primary reason.
1:28.3	When I grow up, I want to be Ray Burton.
1:31.3	He is so inspiring.
1:37.3	His energy, his love of life, it's very attractive to me because I kind of, I'm the other side of the battery most of the time.
1:47.0	But he brings a smile to my face. I just look at him and I start smiling.
1:53.0	Ray has weathered all of these experiences with a smile on his face and whenever he walks into a room,
2:01.6	the Metallica backstage or here at HQ or in any other place that we're fortunate
2:05.6	of to see him, he always has this incredible positive energy.
2:11.6	Ray has this thing about him, you know, and Cliff had it too.
2:18.3	He got it from Ray.
2:19.3	And it's all about fairness, all about equality.
2:24.3	Cliff had that.
2:26.3	And I get emotional because, you know, I miss Cliff.
2:31.3	And that's why I miss the most about Cliff is just that and Ray Burton is
2:37.0	that I'm blown away I'm blown away he's a father figure there's no doubt about
2:44.2	that you know Cliff was pretty fortunate to have him as a dad
