Summary

If you haven't read Abigail Shrier's book, "Bad Therapy" you probably should take a look. Ms. Shrier's critique of an over-psychologized culture and the negative effects of poorly applied therapeutic methods is a timely warning for parents. Dr. Ken doesn't agree with all her conclusions but, as you'll see, there's plenty of very important cautions for parents considering taking their kid to therapy. This is part one of a two part (rather long) discussion. Ms. Shrier's book can be found here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CK524HQ7/ Got questions or feedback? We want to hear from you! The book that I really wanted to have Abigail on our show,

the email I had for her and never heard back from, and heard from listeners that wished we

would or wanted us to talk about it. So I don't think we ever had another book that people

wanted to hear from us about. Yes, this was interesting. and I'm glad I got kind of roped into reading it because I've learned a lot.

Sometimes I read books like this, and sometimes I haven't read a book like this in years.

1:09.2

And I just thought this one was a good,

1:17.4

it was an interesting book. It made me think about what we do with our kids and therapy and how much time and effort we spend on this. Yeah. What did you think? Did you like it? Yes.

1:23.5

I mean, I never agree with 100% of what I read on anything. So I can't say that. But it challenged me in some good ways to think about just personally what I'm doing with my own kids and the things that I highlight and focus in on with them. And then help me to understand that there is a different perspective to a lot of this that I had been kind of naive to.
