0:00.0 | This is Come Follow Me for Us, Hybrid. A little bit of old, a little bit of new because yeah, I said it and it was good. |
0:16.0 | And as always, I'm your host Melanie Stroud. This is season five, episode 21, The Fire Fighters of Our Lives. |
0:24.0 | I'll tell you what happened here. I went to go grab the old episode from season one and there wasn't one called In Remembrance. |
0:34.0 | It went straight from the Son of Man Showcom and then the next one was Continue Ye in my Love. And in the manual this year, they threw in one called In Remembrance. |
0:46.0 | And I didn't recognize it until it was too late. So I was going through and thought, oh, I skipped a couple. I skipped a good Easter lesson and maybe I'll put in a different one. |
0:56.0 | And I had this thought to put in the extra one that I did about the firefighters of our life. And then I found that Easter one and I was like, oh no, no, I need to do this because I haven't done it. |
1:06.0 | We're talking about the death of the Savior. It's perfect. And I started editing it and I just had this feeling, nope, it's the week for the firefighters. |
1:14.0 | So if this one is for you, you're welcome because I kept getting pushed back here, but I'm really, really grateful for this analogy. And as I relisten to it, it all speaks true. |
1:26.0 | And whether we are questioning ourselves, whether we're struggling ourselves or if we're the person that needs to look around and see who we can help, this episode is for all of us. |
1:39.0 | So without further ado, my interview with Jess. |
1:43.0 | Okay. Hi, I am here today with this special podcast that I was talking about. I'm talking to a man named Jess that was in my daughter's ward up in Flagstaff. |
1:53.0 | And everybody beware because if I come unannounced to your ward and you say something amazing, I may have to just snag you and put you on the podcast. |
2:01.0 | So maybe you should just lay low if I come into your area. But when I was at my daughter's ward Sunday, this man got up to talk and he's a fireman and he told just a beautiful analogy, parable. |
2:16.0 | I don't know what you want to call it about how fighting fires applies to our life and to struggles and to how we deal with problems and trials. And I loved it. |
2:28.0 | So I went up to my afterwards and fought the through the crowd of all the admirers and said, Hey, will you please be on the podcast and he agreed. So hi, Jess. I'm so glad you're here with me today. |
2:39.0 | Hi, Maloney. Thanks for having me. I definitely appreciate this opportunity. |
2:44.0 | Well, it was a super, a super interesting thing that you talked about. And I'd first like to say it was kind of crazy at the beginning because he talked about how much he loved fires. |
2:54.0 | And it reminded me when I was a kid and we were like burn everything around at the cabin and we're like, oh, fire, but he's like, I love being in a birding building. I love seeing the flames and everyone in the crowd kind of nervously laugh like, is he going to burn down my house? |
3:10.0 | But it was awesome because his passion for his job came through and it was just I really enjoyed hearing you talk. So I'm wondering today if you could just basically tell me and all the people is seeing what you said Sunday. |
3:27.0 | Yeah, I can I can attempt to. Okay. I've worked through this a couple of times since since Sunday and got a couple different routes with it. I my main hope is to suppress the little bit of emotion that seems to come up each time I go through this, you know, firemen aren't supposed to be emotional. So I get on this podcast. There's never any crying a loud. |
3:52.0 | Yeah, I cry every five seconds. It's all good. Yeah, I'll do my best. But yeah, I am a fireman. I do love fire. I love it so much. It's it's a beautiful thing. Something I've worked really hard at understanding as my careers. |
4:13.0 | I'm progressed and something that I found that the more I understand the better I'm able to do my job. One of my favorite places absolutely is being inside of a burning building. It's there's a beautiful piece to it. I feel comfortable. |
