Hello and welcome back to ACRAC. I'm Jed Wolpop and we've got a really great show for

you today. It's a little different. This is actually a podcast that was put together

by one of the residents at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Elena Medan. She had this idea

years ago when she was still a medical student to try to put together a podcast episode on how to do a

really good job with pre-op presentations of a case to your attending the night before. To her

credit, she put a lot of time over years into trying to talk to a bunch of people, different

attendings, figure out what people prefer, and really what would make best practice for presenting

this. And especially at this time of year as our new CA1s across the country are starting, I thought

this would be really useful to have on our feet as well so people can hear it. And even if you're

not a CA1, this is really good stuff just about how to think about putting together important

information in a presentation of a case, whether it's in anesthesiology or really anything else,

how to be concise. I tell our medical students a lot when you're presenting a case, it's easy to

present everything and just go on and on and on and on and cover everything in the entire chart.

You could just read the chart and it would take a long time, but you'd cover everything. The

hard part is figuring out how to really emphasize what's important. And so I think this is a really

good example of how to do that well. So without further ado, here is Dr. Elena Medan, along with one

of her attendings, Dr. Lauren Bull playing the role of the resident, and you'll see they kind of
