Those of us who were Georgia fans had to confront some sadness this weekend.

We found out that Sonny Smart, the father of Kirby Smart, had passed away.

You know, after kind of taking a fall in New Orleans there for the Sugar Bowl,

and I think we were all kind of forced to reckon with just how complicated a week.

That turned out to be for Kirby and UGA with Mr. Smart dealing with what he was

dealing with. Obviously, just the tragedy that was unfolding just a couple of blocks from where the Georgia

Team Hotel was. And so that's a lot. That's a very heavy topic. In a few minutes here,

we're going to do our part, I think, to hopefully appropriately and properly pay tribute to Sunny Smart and what he meant to Kirby.

Kirby's been good enough throughout the years to talk about that a little bit.

We're going to give you something, I think, kind of special on that here coming up in a moment.

And, you know, I'll share some thoughts about that at the time about what I've always sort of found inspiring about the Smart family.

We're going to get to that here coming up in a little bit.

We know how difficult this time has been for Kirby.

At least we have strong assumptions about that.

And so we'll kind of do our part to discuss that here in a moment.

We also know this, that Smart's competitive fire doesn't burn any less bright during moments like that.
