Yes, a new book has come out about that most famous of Byzantine's.

The book is by Peter Saris and it is excellent. It's not a

dramatization of his career but a brilliantly researched account of his life

and time in office.

Justinian is the only emperor where we can go granular, as I discussed with Professor

called Ellis in some of our recent episodes. We can actually track his words in real

time so to speak as the Nika riots happen or the Bubonic plague hits. We just have so many more sources for that period than any other, in part because of Justinian's relentless legislation.
