In a way, this is the first of several episodes to celebrate the 25th anniversary of CEO.

But, as you can imagine, these are not really times for celebrations and festivities.

The devastating ongoing war in Ukraine, accelerating climate change, biodiversity collapse and

growing divide between haves and haves-nots are some of the truly worrying challenges we face

But as the European powers that be are today celebrating the 9th of May,

we thought we also could use our 25th anniversary to look back.

The 9th of May is Europe Day, or more precise Schumann Day, aka the day that Schumann Declaration was presented

by the French Foreign Minister Robert Schumann in 1950.

It proposed the creation of the European coal and steel community, whose members would

pool coal and steel productions. It was in a way the birth of the European Union as we know it.

But today we will talk about another year,

1972.

That is a year that was at least as significant

because it was the year in which the Club of Rome

published its famous report Limits to Growth.
