1:25.8	So first of all, I'd like to know what are patents, vaccine patents, and how they
1:33.8	are created and established. Okay, so patents are a mechanism to protect the pharmaceutical
1:40.4	research and investigation of new molecules and new medications.
1:45.2	We all know that with COVID it was fast, but how long does it usually take to develop a medicine?
1:50.8	It takes about 14 years to develop a new medication to go into the market for a disease.
1:59.2	And how long do patents last for?
2:01.6	Pharmaceutical companies get a 20-year patent protection,
2:06.6	which means that there are no other similar molecules on the market.
