But Donald Trump tanked the deal. Because he thought by doing that it would help him win an election.

John, this time around, I want to talk to you about how immigration narratives have become a focus in the wake of Kamala Harris's general election loss and the punching bag of some liberals who accuse the Harris campaign of being too far to the left on

myriad issues, including the border crisis. I want to give the floor to you and first just ask

what you make of some of the post-election prognostications?

Well, there's so much to try to keep in mind as we're in the transition period and about

to enter to Trump 2.0. I think it really is essential to try to understand a little bit about how we got here.

There's a lot of analysis that could be done, but laying out some of the basic facts, I think,

lays bare a little bit out, I would say, like the spinelessness of especially the American

left in terms of border and immigration. So just comparing where we started with the Biden-Harris

campaign and where we ended up in especially the last months while Kamala became the candidates

running up into the election. So in early 2021, as Biden took office, there was a number of things

that were on the agenda in terms of border and immigration politics. One of them was,

like there's a couple of executive orders that were issued very early on. One of them was
