Summary

Stephen is one of thousands of so-called "juvenile lifers" who have an unexpected shot at freedom today. Up until 2005, most juveniles could be sentenced just as harshly as adults: that meant life without parole, even the death penalty. Then a landmark Supreme Court decision made executing juvenile offenders illegal, and sentencing guidelines began to change. The court was swayed after hearing about teenage brain development.  Caught is supported, in part, by the Anne Levy Fund, Margaret Neubart Foundation, the John and Gwen Smart Family Foundation, and the Economic Hardship Reporting Project.

Okay. And you see a little red plus sign. I see that. It's in the center of the screen.

1:21.1

Right in the middle. It's just kind of, it's like giving you a place to focus. Okay. I'm focused on it. I'm looking.

1:28.6

Okay, now here's what's about to happen. It's going to go away. And then you see a pinpoint of light appear somewhere in your peripheral vision.

1:31.0

Uh-huh. Yeah, I see it. It's right there. It's off to the right, like a little speck.

1:37.0

Right. So here's the test. The only thing you have to do when that light appears is look away from it.
