radio detectives are tackling cases involving mummies. No notummies, but those heavily bandaged ancient creatures who rise from their

crypts to haunt those who dared to disturb their rest. The mummy became one of the classic Universal Studios

monsters when Boris Karloff played the revived Imhotep in the classic 1932 horror film.

That picture was inspired by the 1922 excavation of King Tut's tomb and the so-called Pharaoh's Curse that befell several of the men who entered

it.

On screen, the mummy headlined an additional four films from Universal, and like his fellow studio monsters he

ended up meeting Abbott and Costello. Hammer Studios put their own spin on

the legend of the mummy with a series of films, and years later in the late 90s,

Universal successfully brought the character back again with a rip-ro roaring adventure version of the story.

They were decidedly less successful when they tried yet again in 2017 with Tom Cruise, but after 85 years of scary movie goers, maybe the mummy needed a break.
