This week, we're heading to Alcatraz,

one of the most infamous prisons in history.

Originally built as an island military base in the San Francisco Bay,

it was used as a federal prison from 1934 until 1963.

Some of America's most notorious criminals served their sentences there, including Al Capone.

And the prison developed a reputation as being escape-proof. said in the middle of the bay surrounded by strong currents and icy waters.

It's been the subject of books, TV shows, and movies.

Two of the best are Don Siegel's Escape from Alcatraz,

which tells the story of the prison's most infamous escape attempt,

and Michael Bays The Rock, which has no basis in reality, but is one of the
