This week's show is for the birds, although it might be more accurate to say it's with the

birds, as our fine-feathered friends play a key role in each of the mysteries we'll hear today.

First up is Bird of Death, a tale from the Syndicated Mystery anthology, The Haunting Hour.

It's the story of the long-suffering personal assistant to a wealthy old man.

After forging a will that names himself as the man's main air, he bumps off his boss and hides the body.

Now the old expression says that the early bird gets the worm, but the titular bird in this episode might also get the clue that sends this killer to the chair.

Then we'll hear a mix of magic and mystery with Blackstone, the Magic Detective.

This syndicated series was inspired by the life of Harry Blackstone, one of the most celebrated magicians of the 20th century.

In the series, he was played by actor Ed Jerome.

And in each of the episodes, Blackstone would narrate one of his cases to his

loyal friends, John and Rhoda. Not only would Blackstone explain how he came up with the solution of the crime, he would also demonstrate a magic trick that the listeners could try on their own at home.

We'll hear Blackstone explain how to perform the rising cigarette trick, and we'll also hear how he used a canary to help him solve the mystery of the bird of doom. Up third is Bob Bailey as George
