Stoke to have you guys back here for another episode of the Pink Bike podcast. I'm Mike Levy,

you're sometimes host for these things. And episode number 67 is going to be a special one for me

and hopefully you guys as well.

Today we've got Richard Cunningham with us.

Now you probably know him as RC for the first of a multi-episode chat with him about pretty much everything.

Now there's a lot to cover, but if you're newest to the sport, you might only know

R.C.'s name from seeing it here on Pink Bike, but that is really just the tip of his

contributions to mountain biking. Now, there's a ton to talk about, I'm not sure how far we're

going to get today in episode one, but we're going to try to cover how R.C RC built some of California's first purpose-built

mountain bike trails in the early 80s, to welding his own mantis mountain bike frames,

building his own plane in his living room, teaching himself how to fly it without taking

lessons? What the hell? And we're going to get to Mount Bike Action, I think, today.

So, R.C., I kind of want to hear about how you taught yourself how to fly a plane, you

wild man, but we're going to go back. I want to start before that. R.C., where did little

Richard grow up? And what was that like? Well, I'm actually in Native California. At my age,

that's a rare deal because everybody emigrated about the same time as I did. So I grew up in

Orange County, which is the bastion of the Republican Party in California. But at that time,

it was just Orange Grove as far as you could see.

I mean, literally, when my father

moved, he bought a house for
