Hello everyone and welcome to the history of Byzantium.

Episode 98.

Leo the Armenian.

During June 813, while Michael Raghavey led the army to its sad defeat at Versenicia, there

was a unique demonstration taking place back in Constantinople.

The year before, a group of soldiers from the Tajmata had attempted to free the sons

of Constantin V.

Disturbed by Michael's lack of military skill and the looming threat of crumbs bulgars,

these men wanted change.

Though this plot was treason, most of the conspirators had simply been sacked and now

hung around the streets of the capital, grumbling bitterly.

The second largest church in Constantinople was the church of the Holy Apostles.

It's the one which St. Mark's in Venice is based on.
