Summary

I never thought a bathroom bill - the kind they passed in North Carolina - would come to my home state.  But it did.  They're trying to pass one where I live, and this is the story of my fight (so far) against it.

When I started working on this podcast two years ago, I promised myself that I'd only do it if I could preserve my daughter's privacy.

have to respect that. So I picked a pseudonym.

Because as a kid in the 70s,

that promoted girl power.

But I could not possibly marry your daughter unless she wished to marry me.

And questioned traditional gender norms.

And I could not possibly marry you before I've gone off to see the world.

A lot of it is still really relevant today,

which is pretty sad, but that's another story. After I picked my pseudonym, I started worrying that someone might recognize my voice.

So I asked some of my friends whose voices I like, if they would narrate my podcast for me.

Six years ago, I gave birth to my first and only child, a boy.

My child told me he was actually a girl, not a boy.

But it didn't feel right to have someone else telling my story

So I asked a tech-savvy friend to try to make me sound like me

But not quite like me using voice modification software.
