And I'm certainly extremely happy to be here.

I know Betty L. very well back in New York, and I'm deeply touched that she would recommend that I come out here. I know Betty L. very well back in New York, and I'm deeply touched that she would recommend

that I come out here. I remember from the days that I was there, we weren't supposed to make

recommendations. You know, you always equivocate things when you're working out of general service.

Any of you who have had the experience writing letters will find that you never get a directive.

Somebody will say, well, our experience has been that perhaps if you tried to do what another

group in another area did, you might be able to solve the problem. And so we would never

give the name of a speaker, particularly we'd say, well, we understand that so-and-so and so-and-so,

and so-and-so, have been fairly well-received in various areas, but understand that so-and-so and so-and-so and so-and-so have been fairly well received

in various areas, but never specifically.

So I'm very grateful to Betty for suggesting that I've come here, although I'm afraid

that she has given him a few false ideas.

However, it's wonderful to be here, and I thank the committee and all of them for having me here, because what a beautiful place.

What a beautiful place for an AA conference.

I've never been to Yosemite, so I was thrilled with the opportunity of being able to be here and to see it.
