i'm an alcoholic um and uh i guess i'll start off by saying that um sobriety date is June 25th, 2011.

But my very first sobriety date was October 4th of 1987, and I was 25 years old.

I was talking to my sponsor last night, and I was talking about coming to this meeting in particular,

and how I've been coming to this Thursday night meeting on a fairly regular basis for about a year or however long it's been going on.

And what I have found is that there's a lot of young people that are sharing their story.

They're in their early 20s and they come up here and they say what their sobriety date is. They don't always say

what their age is, but you know that they're really young. And they have some time. And they've

worked the steps.

You know, I can relate to everything that they're talking about,

even though, you know, I may be 30 years older than they are now.

But I can relate to everything that they're saying.

And I think about that.

And I think about, okay, so I was 25 when I first came into this program.

And the reason why I came into this program was because I was scared.

I had been lying to my sister and her husband, stealing from my sister and her husband.

My drinking was out of control.

I was also just dry goods, I guess, out of control.

And I couldn't stop.

And I knew that I came from a long line of alcoholics already.
