James Aicaster here, comedian and music fan, and in 2017, I had a breakdown.

I dealt with that breakdown by buying as much music from 2016 as I possibly could.

As a result, I now own over 700 albums that came out in 2016 and I'm convinced

it's the greatest year for music of all time. But it's not enough me being convinced. I also want

to convince each and every single one of you, plus a guest every week. I want to send them an album

in advance. They're going to come on the podcast. We're going to talk about that album. This

week, my guest is Fatia El-Goree.

And we're talking about the album, Heaven, by Jamila Woods.

Jamila Woods is a singer-songwriter from Chicago.

She fuses like R&B and jazz.

And like elements of all genres, really, throughout her music.

You can really see different influences shining through at points.

There are loads of little nods to different genres and different bands throughout this album.

This is a debut album.

She dropped it on SoundCloud in 2016 just for free.

And it got such an amazing response that it ended up on a lot of end of year lists

and then being re-released the following year on vinyl and all sorts,

which I now own it on.

Of course I've got it on vinyl.
