James Aicaster here, comedian and music fan, and in 2017, I had a breakdown.

I dealt with that breakdown by buying as much music from 2016 as I possibly could.

As a result, I now own over 700 albums that came out in 2016 and I'm convinced

it's the greatest year for music of all time. But it's not enough for me being convinced. I also

want to convince each and every single one of you, plus a guest every week. I'm going to send

them an album in advance. They're going to come on the podcast and we're going to talk about that

album. This week, my guest is Fern Brady and we're talking about Black Terry Cat by Zenia Rubinos.

Zendurabinos is a musician based in New York, or at least she was for this album anyway.

This was her second album and a real

breakout album for her as well. It ended up on loads of end of year lists, and rightly so.

It's a great mix of like, of R&B and and maybe like elements of 90s hip hop as well. That

was at least a big influence going into the album, even if you can't hear it there. She was

listened to a lot of 90s hip-hop at the time. But then there's also a lot of like punk and rock influences all the way through

and the production is very raw and the aim of this album is to sound like a punk Beyonce and I think

that really comes across throughout the whole record.

There are some more upbeat songs on the album, some more like attacking songs on the album.

There are some quite laid back and chill songs there.

But every song has so many luscious, incredible hooks in it that gets stuck in your head. I've got things to make your love grow thicker.
