Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!
This week Pip continues the Distraction Pieces tradition of appraising the cinematic output of the year just passed - it's Films Of The Year 2024!
A thorough and - crucially - personal rundown of all that happened last year in the world of feature films, major and independent, big screen and small screen. The whole thing was recorded outside in the dead of Winter, so by all means don't feel like you need to mimic those surroundings. This is probably more suitable for a warm and dry environment at your leisure, but wherever you choose it's a nice way to look back in fondness on a really great year in films.
It's obvious but it must be re-emphasised each year - this is not YOUR list of favourite films. It is Pip's. if Pip makes a choice, this does not remove your own choice. It does not mean you are wrong in your own choices. You know this already but you'd be surprised at how some folks might misinterpret these things. It's all love in here. Enjoy, make some notes, rewatch some goodies and maybe make some new acquaintances in the bargain. ENJOY!

0:00.0 | Welcome, welcome, welcome. This is the Distraction Pieces podcast. Episode, I want to say 602, because this will be about the third episode of the New Year. I'm recording this, obviously. On New Year's morn, just before 8 o'clock, I'm taking a lovely walk to record my films of the year, as is the yearly tradition now. |
0:24.8 | But this won't be coming out because the first guest of the year is Jesse Eisenberg. |
0:29.4 | Oh God, it's a good episode, and it's a good guest. |
0:33.8 | I'm a huge fan of that gentleman. |
0:37.5 | And then we would have had the Rob Alton episode, which is also wonderful, someone I'm a huge fan of that gentleman. |
0:40.9 | And then we would have had the Rob Alton episode, which is also wonderful, |
0:42.9 | someone I'm another huge fan of. |
0:48.8 | And then here we are now for me to go over my films of the year. |
0:51.3 | So yeah, there's the first one I've recorded in the New Year. |
0:52.7 | So happy New Year, everyone. |
0:53.9 | Hope you're all well. |
1:01.5 | I hope you had lovely festive periods, no doubt a distant memory now. I had a nice festive period, |
1:07.7 | I think. It's weird. I'm taking the walk I'm taking to record this is a walk I often take Finley, my dog, or every now and then I take Finley. And I always feel like a bit |
1:12.8 | of a cheat actually, because it's the route that's taken by a local dog walkers. Dogtopia, |
1:18.9 | shout out Dogtopia. And I time it so I'm going when they're going, because then Finley |
1:22.9 | gets to walk with like nine or ten other dogs. And's hugely exciting but I always do feel like a bit |
1:28.8 | of a scammer because obviously every other dog there is paying I mean the dogs aren't paying the |
1:34.6 | owners of the dogs have paid to be and I'm taking Finley for a walk so I guess I'm doing that bit but |
1:40.2 | yeah I stumbled upon them by pure chance once and now I just know when they go and where they go. |
1:48.4 | But, yeah, Finley is one of the reasons of, you know, it's been quite a low-key Christmas. Let's just say that, |
1:55.1 | because I've not got to see Finley over this festive period. And that's always sad, isn't it? |
2:03.3 | I say low-key, because it's more... |
