In this edition, to mark the fact that the UN Climate Change Conference, or COP29, is taking place in Azerbaijan this week, that's November 2024, I'm speaking to young climate activist, writer and performer Matt Sowerby.

Matt has been campaigning around climate change since he was a teenager, taking part in the school strikes inspired by Greta Toonberg in his home county of Cumbria in the north of England.

Since then, he's written and performed work specifically around whaling, fossil fuels and hope.

Matt visited Aberdeen recently and on a rather dreary November day, we took a walk along

the beach together. I was keen to hear his perspective as a campaigner and a young person who openly

suffers from climate anxiety, but also to drill down into the idea of hope in a world that sometimes seems very lacking in it.
