From CNN, I'm Afoma DK, with the five things you need to know for Tuesday, April 22nd. Secretary of State Marco Rubio wrote out the first stage of a major plan to reorganize the U.S. State Department.

According to a senior State Department official in documents obtained by CNN, the changes will eliminate 132 domestic offices, cut around 700 positions in Washington, D.C., and closed offices focused on war crimes and global conflict, but wouldn't result in immediate layoffs.

The State Department says the changes are necessary to maintain its efficacy and relevance and are expected to be implemented by July 1st.

Meanwhile, the Environmental Protection Agency says it began

the process of firing and reassigning hundreds of staffers that worked on environmental justice

and diversity issues. And the Social Security Administration is among the latest federal agencies

to offer a second round of buyouts. Today's announcement fulfills the administration's promise to use both gold standard science and common sense.
