I'm Jason Epperson. This is the America's National Parks Podcast and it's time for the latest in National Park news.

First up, the recovery in National Parks from Hurricanes Helene and Milton continues, particularly Haleen.

There were impacts to multiple parks

ranging from Florida to Virginia

and as far west as Tennessee.

The National Park Service tells me that since September 30th, over 400 Park Service employees from 37 states,

the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, representing 64 parks and offices across the MPS have been deployed to assist with recovery efforts.

Responders were fulfilling a variety of roles to support parks including carpenters,

arborists, equipment operators, natural and cultural resource specialists and

administrative staff. There are still lots of parks closed including the

Appalachian National Scenic Trail northbound miles 239.4 to 558.6 that's a lot of miles

forest service land that the AT passes through in North Carolina, Tennessee and

southwest Virginia remains officially closed.

The Blue Ridge Parkway was able to partially reopen, but it's closed between Mile Post 200 to

285 and 305 to 469.

Canaveral National Seashore has limited access restored to beaches.

The Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site in Flat Rock, North Carolina is entirely closed while damages continue to be evaluated.

impacts include numerous down trees and washouts which make park trails and grounds

inaccessible. The historic buildings appear to be undamaged.

At Kings Mountain National Military Park, the Visitor Center and roads have reopened.

Trails remain closed as park staff continue to work to mitigate hazards.

Kalpen's National Battlefield is partially reopened.
