Summary

Many Americans watched in surprise as former Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy was ousted from his position last October — becoming the first speaker in history to be ousted after eight members of his own party joined forces with Democrats to remove him from his position. Nearly one year later, the former Speaker sits down to discuss what his life is like after the speakership, how House Speaker Mike Johnson has handled inheriting a narrow House majority, and why he's remained in Republican politics despite the personal attacks he faced.   They also discuss how Hurricane Helene has devastated communities in the Southeast, including Trey's, and send their thoughts and prayers to those who have been impacted.   Follow Trey on X: @TGowdySC Learn more about your ad choices.
