Summary

Friends, I always love preaching on the Feast of the Holy Family because I think the biblical message here is very surprising. We say the Bible is associated with family values, and indeed it is, but they're probably not the ones we would automatically think of. We see this in the two stories that the Church brings to our attention today: the story of Hannah leaving Samuel at the temple in Shiloh, and the story of Mary and Joseph finding Jesus at the temple in Jerusalem.

0:42.3	We're now coming to the culmination of our preparation for Christmas,
0:45.3	and the church has introduced us to a number of Advent figures,
0:48.3	now Isaiah, John the Baptist, etc.
0:51.3	But we come on this fourth Sunday to the Advent figure par excellence.
0:57.1	So as we're preparing for the coming of Christ, this is the figure who matters the most.
1:03.0	And it's, of course, the Blessed Mother, Mary, the Mother of God.
1:07.6	Now, I know in Catholic Protestant polemics over the past, you know, 500 years,
1:13.6	there's been a lot of talk about Mary. And, you know, you Catholics are obsessed with Mary and
1:17.7	you worship her and she takes the place of Jesus. And of course, all that is so much nonsense.
