All right, welcome back to ArtHoles, everybody. The Art History Podcast that I've been told can be uncomfortable to listen to around loved ones,

kids, co-workers, really almost anybody.

We've got a crazy episode ahead. I'm excited and scared. It's

going to be quite a bit longer than usual and here's why and here's why it took so long.

Part of how I do the research is I'll read through a number of the sources

to get a bigger picture of view of what happens. It allows me to identify certain, I guess benchmark

events as the right phrase, like the accident,

Christina's affair, in Caravaggio it was the prison, the tennis match thing.

They make for good mile markers so we're not beginning or ending an episode in the middle of the story for no reason.

Then for each individual episode I'll go through again and do the deep dive research one episode at a time

so I'm not letting the information get stale in my mind.

Like for next episode, I have no clue what it's going to be about.

I know general facts, but not the depth that we go into.

For this episode, I completely overshot the mark on how much we'd have to discuss

to fully get into the story and it didn't make sense to separate it into two parts.

You'll see. We have so much to talk about, so let's get into it.

When we left Frida, she returned to Mexico after spending years in Gringolandia,

hindered by illness and surgeries, a devastating abortion that infuriated

Diego and she came home to the bombshell of her husband and sister beginning an affair.
