Welcome back to ArtHoles. My name is Michael Anthony and this is the Art History

podcast with someone who has zero background in art history. It's an odd

premise to have to explain to people and I don't have a good answer for when they inevitably ask the

follow-up question of why.

I have a quick correction from last episode before we get going.

Not a correction, an addendum, I guess. My sister reminded me that in addition to my

taping over the only copy of our parents wedding video I also taped over her

senior prom video. I don't remember if I taped over that family memory with that late night

Cinemax soft-core porn. She doesn't remember either. If I had to guess I'd say

maybe? She brought the question to the rest of the family to see what they were called because one of my family's favorite games to play is remember the time Michael did that embarrassing thing and then everybody gets to laugh again. It's one of the few holiday traditions we have. Nobody remembers if it indeed

was more bootleged cinemax porn, though my dad said most likely. Thanks dad. I'm

realizing that telling embarrassing stories is a really good emotional safety valve to cope with what's going on in this story.

This episode most of all.

We ended last episode on a bit of a high note, more or less.

It felt pretty good to have an entire episode

when a major tragedy didn't befall a person, group,

or an entire culture.

That whole approach of taking a moment to sit and appreciate the good times in this story, we can't

do that anymore.

Don't get be wrong, there will be great and ridiculous moments.

It becomes an issue of the frequency at which things are thrown at us. We'd get bogged down. So as a blanket statement moving forward, if the story feels even sort of good, it's one of the good times. So let's just get right back into it.
