In November 1966, Walt Disney checked himself into St. Joseph Hospital for persistent pain

attributed to an old polo injury.

The hospital was across the street from the studio on land.

Walt and Roy had donated to the Sisters of Providence for the hospital.

Walt was diagnosed with lung cancer, and after surgery to remove his lung, he passed away a few weeks later.

we take a look at how Walt's passing affected Disneyland

and the projects already in the planning and construction stages.

Well, the end of the 1960s marked the end of Walt's Disneyland.

The park would become even more dependent on consensus by a group of talented individuals

who had worked with Walt Disney.

Some would be paralyzed by trying to guess what would Walt do,

and others would flourish in their new freedom.

So as the 70s began, the focus of Walt Disney Productions and Wed was primarily on Walt Disney World.

The resort was scheduled to open in Lake Blaine Vista, Florida in the fall of 1971.

Included in the project is a Disneyland East, which was to be named the Magic Kingdom.

Although Disneyland was no longer the center of attention for the Disneyland Company, it was in no way neglected, as is popularly believed.

The 1970s saw several shops close on Main Street and replaced with new ones that continued to be popular with collectors today.
