international city, Los Angeles.

It's a special production from the unfictional podcast of documentaries, true stories, and radio movies.

And soccer has been played by amateurs and semi-professionals for decades on hundreds of teams in the municipal and recreational leagues of Southern California.

Hilton Goring is a guy who spent his life trying to balance his work as a crew member in Hollywood

with his passion for soccer.

At one point he was playing on a team with games all over the American Southwest.

You know, I managed to have a couple of times when I was on a film working as a camera assistant but I'd have a game,

Friday night in Phoenix and I'd have to talk to my boss and say can I get the time off which was very easy if they were

European but the second I had a boss that was American he would just question why are you doing this you know what is it

you're doing you know and then of course you'd get the final statement, but what for soccer?

But this episode is about another team that was founded in the late 1980s that has a kind of

legendary status.

People still talk about this team. It was mostly made up of some hard work. and their soccer dreams in a public park on the weekends. And once again the story

contains some curse words, plus the words soccer and football are used

interchangeably. No offense intended. This episode is called Hollywood United.

Eventually Hilton found a team that didn't require him to leave town and this is about that team.

They were a legendary and notorious local amateur team known for an aggressive

style, colorful banter, and for fielding the occasional movie star or rock musician.

They were called Hollywood United. a team made up mostly of expatriate Brits.
