On this episode, Adam Bate speaks to Sky Sports Gary Neville discussing his new book, The People's Game, A View from the Front Seat in Football. The book, a Sunday Times bestseller, looks into some of the big issues in football today, from the role of ownership to the lack of funding in the football league,

ownership models and the future of the women's game.

Let's get straight into it and hear the thoughts of Neville on the book,

as well as England's recent poor form,

the demise of the European Super League and the introduction of an independent regulator in the English game.

Yeah, I go, we're here to talk about your new book, but I have to actually about England last night.

There's a bit of talk about it being kind of poisonous atmosphere around the team.

But what's your take on where we are at the head of the world? I think poisonous is probably too strong.

I think that Gareth and the players have got a lot of credit in the bank for what they've achieved over the last few years and the performances in the last two tournaments.

I think there's a little, for me, I've been part of England teams as a coach and a player, I went to eight tournaments and understand that when you play these types of friendly Nation League type games, they don't inspire you in the same way as the real meaningful games do. I know

sometimes that's disappointing for fans to hear. I've been a player and I've been there myself

where you just don't quite get up for it the same as a World Cup qualifier or a European Championship

qualifier or certainly a tournament game. But the reality of it is that's what happens. And I know

that England fans, 90,000 of them at Wembley last night, they're going to watch a performance, they want the team to do well.
