March is Women's History Month, so it's the perfect time to revisit an interview I did with one of my favorite former colleagues in the house. She's now gone on to be confirmed and is serving as the Director of National Intelligence. She also ran for president.

Her name, of course, is Tulsi Gabbard.

And when Tulsi joined us, we discussed her then new book, which is a New York Times best-selling book for love of country, which explains why she left the Democrat Party, or, as she might say, the party left her. So I hope you enjoy listening

Aloha, my friend, Trey, it is always a pleasure to talk to you. And it's just's people can't see you i can see you through the

zoom call right now it's great to see you my friend thank you um you're the only person in the last

20 years who said it was great to see me i've had people say it was great to hear me i've had it

people say it was great to see you leave but i have never had it is a 100% not true all right i am

fascinated by what i call uh inflection points moments that drive us to do things better or differently

or make changes in life so when did you realize or have an inflection point?

And you said, you know what? I am young. Perhaps people will perceive that I have not paid my dues,

whatever that phrase means. But I am going to run for the presidency of the United States.

What was the moment, or was there a moment, when you said, I am going to do this?

First of all, there have been at every juncture of my decision to run for and serve in public office,

the predominant political establishment view has been she's too young and she hasn't paid her dues.

That was true when I was 21 years old and I was running for state house in Hawaii.

It was true when I was 31 years old and running for Congress, representing Hawaii's second

district.

And it was certainly true when I made that decision to run for president.

The big inflection point for me that started to get me to even think in that direction

came about in January of 2018 when, as you remember,

there was a huge false alarm of a ballistic missile coming to Hawaii that we thought
