We will be paying Tribute to FDNY FF Andrew Fredericks who died on 9-11-01. Andrew A. Fredericks‚ 40‚ was a firefighter in Squad 18 and a 21-year FDNY veteran. For those who never had the pleasure of meeting or hearing of Andy's work, know this: Andy was a nationally recognized gifted instructor and author who made a tremendous impact in the fire service. Andy was co-author of the FDNY’s Engine Company Operations Manual. He was a New York State-certified fire instructor‚ an instructor for the New York State Association of Fire Chiefs‚ an adjunct lecturer at John Jay College of Criminal Justice‚ and taught at fire service training meetings across the country. The father of two had bachelor’s degrees in political science‚ and public safety and fire science‚ and a master’s degree in fire protection management. Most importantly, Andy was a kind and humorous man, a friend to many, and a devoted husband and father. Andy left us with a wealth of knowledge. He touched many across the country through his articles, hands-on training, lectures, and videos. His no-nonsense, back-to-basics approach to combating today's complicated and dangerous fires brought with it a strong following. The firefighters who were blessed to witness his instruction have an obligation to carry on his work.
