Do you believe there will be another pandemic where there is something that's much worse?

0:06.4

I don't know. I think that it's very easy to predict disasters. People, you know,

0:16.2

there's going to be a meat truck hits the earth. There's going to be an atomic explosion. There's

0:19.4

going to be. And by and large, from my own experience, and I've lived for 73 years,

0:24.8

you know, we got through the cold war, we got through the massive arsenal of weaponry,

0:29.6

we basically had a very good world that had a very, very good 70 years. And the fact is,

0:34.8

is that things are better now than they've ever been before. They may be. I would actually hope

0:40.1

that this will be a, for like a dress rehearsal for smartening up. And you know, we need to start

0:48.4

thinking a little bit more about, a little bit less about ourselves, a little bit, maybe a little

0:52.3

bit less focused about likes on social media, more about the real life. It was a, it was a thing

0:59.3

that we were sort of drifting into a time when, you know, automation would take over all the work,

1:04.2

we would be unemployed, people would live forever. And that no longer seems so likely. And it's

1:10.4

a good thing it's not because there's an awful lot of people for whom that wouldn't have been

1:14.0

the model. That was the model for the, you know, top 1%. And I think we need to flatten our

1:20.1

societies a bit because societies that have massive inequalities are not really healthy places.

1:27.9

It's interesting that in Europe, the two most sort of egalitarian societies are Iceland and

1:35.0

Ireland. And they have, this is usually measured by something called the, the, the genie index.

1:41.6

And the genie index for those two are really, really good. Other places are not nearly so good,

1:46.6

then you get to Brazil and Brazil is the worst in the world. But Brazil is about probably 10 times

1:53.0

less equal in terms of the richest of the poorest than Iceland and Ireland. And that has an effect.

1:59.5

If you live in a country where they're divorced, this proportionality, it leads to

2:05.1

instabilities. And I think what we're seeing in the United States is a kind of instability.
