Summary

Hillsdale College Radio General Manager and Radio Free Hillsdale Hour Host Scot Bertram fills in for Jim on 3 Martini Lunch. Join Scot and Greg as they discuss the GOP’s push for consumer freedom, Democrats’ extreme opposition to making sure only citizens can vote, and President Trump’s call to make Daylight Saving Time permanent.

First, they praise President Trump’s executive order restoring consumer choice over showerhead water pressure, along with a U.S. Senate vote to repeal a Biden-era rule targeting gas-powered water heaters. Scot and Greg see these moves as a strong rejection of the left’s absurd climate agenda and unnecessary government interference in everyday life.

Next, they cheer the House passage of the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, which would require proof of citizenship to vote in federal elections. Democrats are leveling bizarre claims that the bill would disenfranchise married women who changed their names. Scot and Greg dismantle those arguments and call out Rep. Eric Swalwell and others for resorting to profanity and theatrics  to act like they're fighting hard against the GOP.

Finally, as President Trump calls for making Daylight Saving Time (DST) permanent, Scot explains why permanent Standard Time makes far more sense if you're going to make one time permanent. He also points out that America tried year-round DST back in the 1970s and hated it. And, while neither of them particularly enjoy the time changes, Scot and Greg also wonder why so many people are suddenly obsessed with this issue when nobody really seemed to care about it a generation ago.

his station once again has been named the Michigan College Radio Station of the Year. I believe

that's a three-peat and four and six years. Is that right, Scott? Well, you can't say three-peat,

0:51.2

otherwise you've got to pay Pat Riley. Say back-to-back- back to back. Yes, it's three in a row and maybe four in seven years. We won in 2019. And there's a technicality on which we lost in between there. So really it should have another one. But I can't, you know, complain too much. Three in a row is pretty good.

It's like Reagan complaining that he really won Minnesota kind of. Right. Yeah. Yeah. It's, it's

unseemly. So let's get to our three martinis today. We're going to be talking about what our clock should be like all year round.

President Trump has weighed in on the permanent time debate. We're also going to talk about the SAVE Act, which passed the House and is now headed to the Senate, but the Democrats are claiming its voter suppression, of course.

1:30.6

But first, let's talk a little bit about consumer choice.

1:34.1

Some people see this as kind of a frivolous issue.

1:36.8

I see it as the government staying out of an area where they really have no business being in the first place.

So we kind of referred to it yesterday in

signing an executive order giving consumers more choice in terms of the pressure of their showerheads.
