Summary

For the last five years, Here Be Monsters has been a part of KCRW. And in those years, we’ve put out a 100+ episodes under KCRW’s imprint.

However, moving forward, HBM will no longer be associated with the station, instead continuing as an independent production.

This departure leaves HBM entirely unfunded. So for our upcoming ninth season, we’re seeking community sponsors. HBM would love to promote your business or project or just say some words that are meaningful to you. Become a sponsor of HBM today.

Please note that the release date of Season 9 is currently unknown. Probably early 2021.

0:00.0	So, usually when I try to record things I try to make it sound like I'm in a kind of an
0:20.0	empty box like a blank room but today it's the 4th of August 2020 and a hurricane or a tropical storm is just blowing in.
0:34.7	So instead of trying to make it sound like I'm in a quiet place,
0:38.8	I decided to open all the windows and just try and throw out my script and talk to you about the future of this show.
0:50.0	And I think as we go throughout this episode you're going to hear it rain harder and harder and hopefully we can end in the in the middle of a storm.
1:00.0	So a lot's changed since we talked last in the last episode. You know, this show is a show that I started in 2012 as an independent podcast and I've continued
1:15.6	it since then and in 2015 KCRW decided to become the distributor of the show and what that meant is that they would get
1:24.3	to put their name on the podcast right show remained independent but they would put their
1:29.4	name on it and Beth and I've been incredibly thankful for that support that's come in for the last five years.
1:37.0	Each year in the summer we would renegotiate our contract.
1:42.0	We would always come to an agreement about another season of shows.
1:47.6	But this year when we did our renegotiation, KCRW decided that they didn't want to continue that relationship anymore.
1:55.0	And so that's the bad news. The bad news is that we currently don't have any funding for this show.
2:00.0	And it's not terrible news, not by any means, because the first three seasons were all produced independently.
2:06.5	It's something I'm very used to doing. It's something I'm going to continue to do.
2:10.5	I'm going to keep making this show until, well, I get tired of making this show or you all stop
2:16.6	listening or I get hit by a bus, you know what I mean?
2:21.1	So I'm going to keep making the show independently, just like I used to.
2:25.0	And Beth has made the very smart decision that she's going to pull back on her responsibilities until the show has more stable funding again.
2:36.2	Obviously Beth and I have worked together for a long time, even way back before the start of this
