Explorer Henry Hudson. Today we are going to cover Hudson's third voyage of exploration,

this to North America, and specifically in the area around

what is modern day New York City.

Two notes for today.

First, there is a map of Hudson's route on our website, Explorers Podcast.com. And second, I want to stress that Hudson's story is at virtually every stage a bit murky.

Much of what we have only gives us the bare outlines of his life and his voyages, so there is a lot of speculation involved. That means when I tell this story, I'm making my best guesses as to what really happened, but know that you can find other interpretations regarding Hudson

and his exploits. It's not a huge deal, but I want to remind you of that.

All right, last time we left Hudson in England after a second voyage, this defined the Northeast Passage by going above Russia.

The expedition had come to an end when Hudson and his ship had been blocked by impassable ice and the Nova Zimlia archipelago.
