Explorer Hiram Bingham and his search for the lost cities of the Inca which includes

Machu Picchu. Last time we learned about the history of the Inca, which includes Machu Picchu.

We then introduced Yale Professor Hiram Bingham to our story, detail in his upbringing,

his wife's family wealth, and how he became interested in the history of South and Central America,

a field of study that was not that popular at the time.

We talked about Bingham's first couple of expeditions into the mountains of Peru.

On the second one, he basically stumbled into doing a survey of a supposed lost Inca city,

Chococirao. It was a nice coup for Bingham and his reputation rose as the site, while not unknown, had ever been described and documented from a scientific perspective.

Bingham would write a couple of books based on these expeditions and he was an emerging expert in South American history.
