I don't know about you, but I've been really grateful that we've started this year off talking about hope.

Because I need hope.

We need hope.

And every once in a while you go to church, and it's awesome when this happens.

You go to church and you sit under the message and you're like, man, this is awesome. I'm learning stuff. I didn't know.

My mind's being stretched. My heart's being stretched. And you're like, I really liked that

collection. And praise God for that. But there are other times, I think, when you come to church and you get in

your car and it's not really, I liked that.

It's, I needed that.

And for me, personally, and I think for a lot of people in our house, this journey, as we've started this new year, coming around the idea of hope has been, man, we really, we needed that.

Maybe you've heard it said before, you can go up to 40 days without food.

You can go four days without water. You can go four minutes without air, they say. But you can't go

four seconds without hope. We all need hope. We are hardwired for hope. The way the Proverbs writer says it in

Proverbs 1312, he says, hope deferred makes the heart sick. But a longing fulfilled is a tree of life.

Hope deferred. What does that mean? Deferred here, this word he uses,

hope deferred, is this idea of dragging for something to drag behind. So what he's saying is,

is that when hope drags our hearts become discouraged. When we are hopeless, we are heart broken. Maybe you know what that's like.
