It would be a little strange to host a natural history and science podcast without mentioning

the Seaward.

I'm of course talking about the coronavirus, COVID-19 and the resulting global pandemic.

We've had some particularly challenging years as the virus spread across the world causing

immense suffering and unprecedented disruption to all our lives.

Luckily we've had an army of superheroes on our side to fight back.

Healthcare workers battling on the front line and also scientists who work tirelessly to

develop a much needed vaccine.

But we don't just have the men and women in white coats to thank.

This is a podcast about the brilliance of animals.

And one in particular has been absolutely vital in the race to develop a vaccine for COVID-19.

And it's not just COVID we're talking about here.

This animal has helped to ensure the safety of every vaccine, every injection and every

medical procedure for the last 45 years.

Any idea what the animal might be?

Well, to be honest, I don't blame me if you don't have the answer on the tip of your

tongue.

Because although this creature plays a crucial role in medicine, it's a bit of an unsung

hero.

Okay.
