The second hour here, and a couple of guests will be dropping

me. I want to ask the question. I realize a lot of you are younger, so you won't really be

able to remember. But my question is 40 years ago today. That's pretty simple. It was April 1st,

1985. For those of you who were sports fans back then,

you may remember having one of the greatest April Fool's Day pranks pulled on you in the history of sports.

I'll take you back to a cover story in Sports Illustrated magazine on April 1st, written by George

Plumpton, one of the most famous authors ever, called The Curious Case of Sid Finch.

So who was Sid Finch?

He was, according to the article, raised in an English orphanage, he learned yoga in Tibet

and could throw a fastball 168 miles an hour. He was

going to play for the Mets that year. He was a rookie. He was discovered in Maine. He wore one shoe

a hikers boot while pitching and had never played baseball before

trying to decide between a sports career and the French horn.

I mean just for those of you who have never pitched baseball, 168 miles an hour, it's pretty

spectacular.

His accuracy was the greatest anybody had ever seen.

It was a completely bizarre article, but they covered it with real pictures of somebody with his

uniform I think excuse me his locker right next to two very famous Mets George
