Summary

If reading the Bible feels more like a chore and not an activity you look forward to each day, if it doesn't feel like it comes alive to you, or you're just unsure how to study it, then this episode is for you. I was in the same position—my relationship with the Bible was essentially non-existent. I didn't completely understand what it was or the purpose it held in my life. At some point, I was challenged to start engaging with it once again. And as I did, I began to understand it on a deeper level. I felt I was actually getting revelation, and I became eager to get into the Word and ask God questions. I explain tips that have helped me in becoming consistent in not just reading but studying the Word regularly and applying it to my life. What's up? I'm Darren Starks and welcome to the Disciples Journal. Not too long ago, I found

0:05.7

myself in a dilemma of source if we can call it that. And it was the fact that I knew what I

0:14.3

needed to do in order to get closer to Jesus, but I was really unsure on how to actually apply

0:20.5

it to my life. So I knew that I needed to

0:23.8

pray, get my word, fast, stay in community. But I didn't really understand how I was supposed to walk that

0:33.0

out in my every day. Really from that point on, I challenge myself to start making my relationship with Jesus

0:39.6

my own and making every effort to walk with him every single day. And that was really the birth

0:47.7

of this show, The Disciples Journal. It's really just firsthand account of myself and other people

0:53.7

that I'll have on of how we've

0:56.7

been walking with Jesus, what he's taught us, what we've seen, how we're doing that ourselves,

1:02.3

really in hope that it inspires you and equips you to do the same.

1:06.6

So what I wanted to talk to you about today was really how to study the Bible.

1:11.6

And this has been really transformative for me because I remember there were moments in my life

1:18.2

that the Word of God just wasn't alive to me.

1:21.9

My relationship with the Word was very stagnant, stale, and almost non-existent.

1:26.7

So whenever I was getting into my Word, it was really just to check off a box for

1:31.3

the day, like, yeah, I did it, or I got it done, or, you know, just to get through a small

1:36.2

little devotional to make me feel better about my faith or where I was at with Jesus.

1:41.7

And going through the Bible app, the U version version of today, and thinking that that

1:48.7

was all I needed to do in order to follow him or have a deep understanding of the word.

1:54.8

Now that I recognize what was happening then and what I do now, one thing that I had to change

is I had to stop just reading
