So last night here on the show, we talked about some worrying new hiring numbers, which seemed just like a bad indicator of where the economy appears to be heading very quickly, now that Donald Trump has taken office again.

0:14.0

Those numbers from ADP, the payroll company, showed private sector employers hiring less than half the number of people they did last month,

0:25.5

which was half the number economists had been expecting them to hire in February.

0:30.7

That was very bad news.

0:33.1

Now we've got new numbers not on the number of hirings, but the number of firings.

0:39.4

And those numbers are way worse.

2:04.6

That's the last time firing numbers looked like this.

2:07.6

That's it.

2:11.1

These are just indicators, and maybe they are wrong.

2:12.3

Maybe these are outliers.

2:16.5

We expect the official government monthly jobs report tomorrow morning.

2:19.3

It's actually not expected to be bad,

2:24.0

in part because a lot of the firings since Trump has been president have happened so recently that they may not be reflected in government figures yet. But we shall see, weirdly and worryingly,

2:31.9

because the president and his commerce secretary have both started to make
