Green Alliance. For the past three years, we've been generously funded by the Joseph Roundtree

charitable trust to investigate how the tax system could change to support a low-carbon,

nature-rich economy. We've been looking into this because the tax system could change to support a low-carbon, nature-rich economy.

barely been tapped into. As it stands, the UK tax system is geared towards a high-carbon economy.

that would encourage green alternatives. And on the other hand, the government risks losing

important sources of revenue as industries decarbonize, with no clear plans on how to fix the looming

fiscal black holes. In June, as the final output for our transformed tax project, we held an event

I was delighted to be joined on the stage by Peter Foster, public policy editor at the Financial Times,

who chaired the panel, as well as Chris Stark, CEO of the Climate Change Committee,

Here are some of the highlights of a discussion, starting with a bit of background about the project itself.

The Transformed Tax Project actually grew out of some research we did with the University of Cardiff,

which looked into the changes that we, well, how people felt about the changes that we need to see
