Zach Davis and Andrew Hanauer, the CEO of the One America Movement, an organization that helps faith leaders fight toxic

polarization. In this conversation Andrew and Zach discuss the causes behind the rise in polarization,

the way political tribalism can become a false idol,

and the imperative of truly following Jesus' call to love your enemies,

bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you,

and pray for them which despitefully use you and persecute you.

Andrew encourages us to see that our calling as disciples of Jesus

is to follow his example and transform conflict through love.

Yeah, thanks for having me, appreciate it. Your path is unusual because most people recognize we are in a toxic polarized

environment but you have actually sought to do something about it.

And so I'd love to hear about this path that has taken you here.

How did you come to be a peace builder?

Yeah, thanks Zachary. I'm happy to answer that question.

So my journey's been, I think, very personal on this topic.

I was raised actually in California in a secular Jewish home really did not have

religion I was not bar mitzvah but I didn't grow up in a family that believed in

God or or really cared about religion other than they had tried to sort of get away from it in their lives.

And when I got to college, I found Jesus and I converted to Christianity and I ended up marrying someone who grew up in the rural south.
