Decades ago, a couple of teenage cowboy pals invited my brother and I to come over to their

ranch for the traditional pre-Dear Hunt site-in shooting event.

We showed up, fired a few rounds through our 4440 lever

action carbines to prove to ourselves that our sights were on, and padded ourselves on

the back when we consistently perforated the empty milk jugs placed against the hill a hundred yards away.

Then I watched an amazement at what unfolded.

One cowboy pal was struggling to hit the jug with his pre-64 Winchester 94 in 32 Special.

He clearly had quite a flinch and was pulling his shots way right.

Instead of working with him to correct his flinch,

his dad just drifted the iron front sight

way to decide to compensate, saying,

we'll just set your sight so you flinch the shot into the vitals.

Point is there's a right way and many wrong ways to sight in your hunting rifle.
